Vanessa’s Record of Service
Vanessa consistently engages with constituents, attends neighborhood meetings, and listens to our concerns. She works hard to ensure that the voices of District 2 residents are heard in City Hall, advocating for our needs and priorities.
Supporting Working Families
Vanessa led the effort to raise the minimum wage to $20 and double paid parental leave for city workers to 12 weeks, ensuring fair treatment and compensation for those who serve our community.
She also expanded access to childcare and dual-language, full-day pre-K for families in Del Valle.
Vanessa made library cards free for all youth in Travis County, promoting education and literacy for our children.
She launched a workforce development program for Community Health Workers, empowering local residents to take charge of their health and improve overall community wellness.
Housing & Community Safety
Vanessa championed the creation of the Displacement Prevention Housing Navigators, helping vulnerable residents stay in their community and access resources.
She also led the Renters Rights Agenda, ensuring robust tenant protections, tenant assistance funding, and eviction prevention resources.
Vanessa created the Trauma Recovery Center for victims of violent crime in our community, ensuring victims have a safe space to heal, receive counseling, and access resources.
Climate Resilience
Vanessa supports the development of Community Resiliency Hubs, which are designed to provide essential services and support during emergencies, ensuring that our community remains strong and connected in times of crisis.
Vanessa brought forth the initiative to bury power lines for City-led projects. By burying power lines, we aim to enhance the reliability of our electrical infrastructure, reducing the risk of outages during severe weather events and improving overall public safety.
